Nebulizers are devices that administer medication in the form of a mist inhaled into the lungs. They are commonly used for treatment of cystic fibrosis, asthma, COPD and other respiratory diseases. They change medication from a liquid to a mist so that it can be more easily inhaled into the lungs. They are particularly effective in delivering asthma medications to infants and small children and to anyone who has difficulty using an asthma inhaler. Nebulizers come in home (tabletop) and portable models. Home nebulizers are larger and must be plugged into an electrical outlet. Portable nebulizers run on batteries -- either disposable or rechargeable -- or can be plugged into a car's cigarette lighter.
Suction machines remove excessive secretions and keeps the mouth and airway clear. It is often required for tracheostomy patients. The cool, dry and not so clean air breathed by the patients causes mucus secretion. This mucus needs to be cleaned frequently to keep the air passage clean and prevent an obstruction. Portable and nonportable suction machines are available. The non-portable type is electricity operated and is more difficult to move. The portable type is electricity and battery operated, allowing patients to easily move the machine.
CPAP, BiPAP & Sleep Products
Continuous Positive Airway Pressure therapy (CPAP) uses a machine to help a person who has obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) breathe more easily during sleep. A CPAP machine increases air pressure in your throat so that your airway does not collapse when you breathe in. Bi-level Positive Airway Pressure therapy (BiPAP) is based on the CPAP machine but allows the the air pressure that's delivered through the mask to be controlled and set differently for inhaling and exhaling.
